DNA

dna-strandEveryone is born with miles of information that define their way their body is put together.  DNA contains all the vital information for cellular replication, and the intricate organs and systems of the body that allow life to be sustained.  DNA sets the stage for existence and life.

DNA is just as vital in a church.  The DNA identifies the purpose, the direction and the mission.  As we begin meeting with others in our Missional Community, we seek to replicate the DNA that God has placed in us over the past few years.  God has impressed upon that our church be focused on Knowing the Master, Mimicking His Ways, and Apprenticing others.  We desire to make disciple makers.  We practice and communicate these foundations that God has placed in us as our DNA and help others to take hold of them and move forward in the direction that God has for us to carry out the mission He has called us here to accomplish.

Sweet Spot

You know those times that you do something hard and it feels natural and comfortable?  Last tuesday night at our Gumbo party felt that way.  Amanda was in her sweet spot using her spiritual gift of hospitality.  The guests felt at home and welcomed at our table.  I was able to bounce from conversation to conversation getting to know each of our guests.  The food was good, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the company was good.

I am not saying that we nailed everything but I do know this is what God has been preparing us for and it is becoming a reality.  There will be hard days, frustrations, and struggles (you know I am too much of a realist to think otherwise).  But we know that God has called us, prepared us, and is now doing a new work through us.  And we are ready to keep aiming for the sweet spot and seeing what God does through us.

Ending and Beginning Again

This past week has been a week of endings and new beginnings. Sunday August 12th was our last day at Fairhaven Baptist, our church home for over eight years. On the 13th we had a fundraising dinner in Huntsville with friends and family; then we had another fundraising dinner in Demopolis on the 16th. It was truly a blessing to see friends and family and share our call and vision. Our time in Demopolis has ended and will be missed and our new journey has begun.

Then our family piled into our vehicles and tackled the journey to Colorado Springs. Who knew that Texas and New Mexico were so desolate? We arrived 2 days ahead of our moving truck and camped out inside. Finally, our stuff arrived and Amanda and I have been unpacking like mad. Only a few things were damaged or broken and now we have what seems to be a home, with a few things left to unpack. Tonight we attended Vanguard (on a Saturday night) and Frontline Church Planting has already put information about its new residents on their website. We look forward to a new beginning in Colorado.
